This is one possible route from downtown Mestre to Venice and vice versa, mostly achievable using bike lanes or paths; the final section from the Vega coincides with the new bike path into Venice

Reverse route Venice → Mestre.

From the center of Mestre (Via Poerio) get on the bike lane along Via Rosa as far as Piazzale Donatori del Sangue, where you will pass in front of Villa Erizzo, then follow the bike lane up to the intersection with Via Cavallotti, and turn left following the bike lane along the street that becomes Via Pietro Bembe and Via Genova, turn onto Via Napoli and finally join Via Torino.

Via Torino is flanked for its entire length by a two-way bike lane, first on the right side, then switches to the left side in front of the new buildings of the Università Ca` Foscari, as far as the overpass over the canal and the railroad tracks; at the end of the overpass, one arrives directly at the underpass of the FS train station of Porto Marghera, which allows one to cross below the SR 11 state highway and to emerge in front of the Antares Pavilion of the Vega (Venice Gateway for Science and Technology).

In front of the pavilion is where the new bike path to Venice begins; it was completed in 2017.

Warning! As of 2018 the bike lane along a section of Via Torino is blocked to allow construction work on the Porto Marghera train station; when you come to the university buildings you need to take a detour using Via Paganello, which takes you to the back entrance of the train station; there you need to use the narrow underpass, that has stairs at both ends; once through the underpass you will come to the Vega pavilion, as described above.
